SUMMARY:Classroom Visit: A Journey Through Islamic History at Bishop Tonnos Secondary School
DESCRIPTION:As part of our Islamic Heritage Month programming\, we will be visiting multiple classrooms at Bishop Tonnos to deliver an interactive and engaging workshop! \nThis fun\, informative session gives students an opportunity to learn about the core beliefs\, practices\, and values of Islam\, while also addressing common misconceptions and encouraging open\, respectful dialogue. \nTopics include: \n\nWhat do Muslims believe?\nWhat is the Qur’an and how is it used?\nWhy do Muslims pray five times a day?\n6 articles of faith.\nMisconceptions.\nAnd more – with lots of opportunities to ask questions (anonymous)!\n\nThe workshop is designed to be student-friendly\, engaging\, and interactive\, with activities and discussion throughout to keep students involved and curious. \nOur goal is to foster understanding\, respect\, and connection\, while helping students see the diversity and richness of the Muslim experience – both globally and right here in Canada.

DESCRIPTION:Salam Neighbour is pleased to participate FIRST time in the National Women’s Show in Toronto\, providing a welcoming space for learning\, conversation\, and connection. \nOur booth is dedicated to sharing accurate information about women in Islam\, addressing common questions and misconceptions\, and highlighting the voices and contributions of Muslim women throughout history and in today’s society. \nGiven the show’s focus on empowerment\, lifestyle\, and meaningful dialogue\, our presence aims to offer value in the following ways: \n\nExploring the Role of Women in IslamLearn about the rights\, responsibilities\, and dignity afforded to women in Islamic teachings — including education\, work\, family\, and leadership.\nHighlighting Inspiring Muslim WomenDiscover stories of Muslim women who have made significant contributions globally and locally — from scholars and scientists to artists\, activists\, and community leaders.\nCreating Space for Honest DialogueOur booth encourages respectful\, open discussion. Visitors are welcome to ask questions and engage in conversation with knowledgeable volunteers who are prepared to speak on both historical and contemporary topics.\n\nThis initiative is part of our broader effort to promote understanding\, challenge stereotypes\, and build bridges across communities. We invite attendees to stop by\, explore our materials\, and take part in an important conversation.

SUMMARY:Mosque Tour: Corpus Christi Secondary School
DESCRIPTION:Our Mosque Tour is a welcoming and educational experience designed for Grade 11 World Religions classes from Catholic schools. Hosted at Dar Foundation\, this visit offers students the opportunity to engage directly with Islamic faith and culture in a respectful\, interactive setting. \nDuring the tour\, students receive a guided walk-through of the mosque\, including key spaces such as the prayer hall\, wudu (ablution) area\, and community spaces. The visit also includes an engaging presentation on the core beliefs and practices of Islam\, including: \n\nWhy Muslims pray five times a day\nWhy there are no depictions of God in Islam\nThe spiritual reasons behind separate prayer spaces for men and women\nThe importance of congregational worship and community\n\nTo create a safe space for open dialogue\, students are invited to submit questions anonymously through a Q&A form\, which are answered respectfully and thoughtfully during the session. \nAs a warm gesture of hospitality\, students are also offered a small treat during their visit. \nThis tour is a valuable opportunity to foster interfaith understanding\, support curriculum connections\, and encourage curiosity and respect among students.
